I stumbled upon this page and it's very informative. Even the computer illiterate may get some guidance to improve his/her WoW performance. It gives comparisons of the work of different cards and processors and shows a comparison of how things can look like in worse or better settings.

It even has tips for DX11 enabled video cards, that can improve WoW performance substantially by enabling WoW to use DX11. Great article and very enlightening. I never thought WoW could look that nice.

I can confirm that enabling DX11 will improve frame rates (it nearly doubled them for me), but water is glitchy in that mode if you have a viewport. I had to turn the water effects down.

Radeon HD 6870 for me.

I think they fixed water and viewports, it at least works right now for those of us without fancy smanchy DX11.

I don't feel bad for stupid people.

I noticed something bizarre yesterday. Certain buffs that alter the way you see the word like the Sapphire glasses in that Uldum quest or the nightmares in heroic Deadmines make my graphics get all pixelated. There's no performance degradation or anything, but it looks like I'm playing WoW on a Super Nintendo. =P

If I had to guess, using only this tiny bit of data, I'd check your texture resolution settings.

Yup, everything works fine in DX9.

I'm using dx11, computer can handle highest for everything (except shadows, screw shadows) but if i go above fair with water it vaporizes. Flying over the ocean looks like flying over a desert.

The only thing I see as an issue since I made the change to my WTF config is that my viewport likes to change colors in different settings.

And I'm trolling... :)

For those noobs using DX11 + a viewport like I am, I found a solution to the water problem. Set multi-sampling to 1x. It's probably not the most desired method, but it's either that or set water to fair.

Using 1x multi-sampling will make some edges a bit blocky, but it's not all that noticeable on a high res monitor. When things are in motion, it's really a non-issue.
